Citizen Science Project Focuses on Neglected Resource

Each year on World Soil Day, December 5th, people from around the globe celebrate the importance of soil as the basis for food, feed, fuel, fiber production and for services to ecosystems. Awareness and momentum gained on World Soil Day will lead into 2015, designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Soils.

National Science Teachers Association Conference - Kansas City, Dec. 3-5, 2015

We attended the area conference of the National Science Teachers Association in Kansas City (December 3-5, 2015). We had the great opportunity to give a presentation about soil respiration. Soil science has been mostly focused on physical and chemical properties of the soil. In recent years, the biology of the soil has becoming a main subject of study.

Soil Health Survey Training - Rolla, November 20, 2015

The second training of citizens for the soil health surveys was on November 20, 2015 at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. Our host Joel Burken and his team did a great job in providing logistics for this training. Teachers and high schoolers came from Union, St. Clair and Crocker. They all drove about an hour to attend this training on a Friday night! Thank you all for participating.
