MO DIRT participated of the U.S. Science and Engineering Festival (April 15-17, 2016) in Washington D.C.. We joined the American Society of Plant Biologists, the US Botanic Garden, the Botanical Society of America, the Society of Economic Botany, and Rutgers University in an exhibit called Plants Move. Plants Matter. Join the Plant Movement!. visitors explore the critical functions of roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds. MO DIRT focused on roots with displays of root tips, cross sections of monocot and dicot roots, and geotropism. Hands-on activities include a "root race" where participants observed differences in root growth among corn varieties from different parts of the world. Over 365,000 people attended the festival and thousands stopped by at our exhbit.
